Enable Microphone Access

SmileyRead needs microphone access to hear your pronunciation. Find your device below and follow the steps.

iPhoneSafari browser
  1. 1Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. 2Scroll down and tap Safari.
  3. 3Under Settings for Websites, tap Microphone.
  4. 4Find smileyread.com (or "Other Websites") and set it to Allow.
  5. 5Go back to Safari and reload the page.
iPhoneHome Screen app (saved to home screen)

PWA is currently not supported.

Voice practice does not work when SmileyRead is installed as a home screen app on iPhone. Please open smileyread.com directly in Safari instead.

iPhoneChrome browser

Chrome on iPhone is not supported.

Due to iOS restrictions, voice practice does not work in Chrome on iPhone. Please open smileyread.com in Safari instead.

AndroidChrome browser
  1. 1In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) at the top right.
  2. 2Tap SettingsSite settingsMicrophone.
  3. 3Find smileyread.com and change it to Allow.
  4. 4Reload the page.
  5. 5Alternatively: tap the lock icon in the address bar → Permissions → enable Microphone.
DesktopChrome or Edge browser
  1. 1Look for a camera / microphone icon in the browser address bar (right side). Click it.
  2. 2Set Microphone to Allow, then click Done.
  3. 3Reload the page.
  4. 4If you don't see the icon: open browser SettingsPrivacy and securitySite settingsMicrophone, find smileyread.com, and set it to Allow.
MacSafari browser
  1. 1In the menu bar, click SafariSettings (or Preferences).
  2. 2Click the Websites tab, then select Microphone on the left.
  3. 3Find smileyread.com in the list and set it to Allow.
  4. 4Reload the page.

Still not working?

Make sure no other app (e.g. a phone call or video app) is using the microphone at the same time, and that your device microphone is not physically blocked or muted.
